Today the founders of Citizens for a Strong Democracy responded to the U.S. Senate’s decision not to create a commission to investigate the events of January 6th:

"The Senate's decision to not seek the truth about what happened during an insurrection against the U.S. government -- one of the most dangerous and violent attacks on our democracy in modern memory -- is deeply alarming. As national security leaders who have dedicated ourselves to keeping our country safe, and have worked for Democratic and Republican Administrations, we are gravely concerned about the message this sends to the American people.

"The duty of public officials is to uphold the democratic institutions that protect all of us. After the 9/11 attacks, our country grieved together. We were united in our determination to seek the truth and the 9/11 commission was established to do just that. The Department of Homeland Security, which all of us served, was created to protect our nation based on what was learned from the 9/11 commission. Likewise, we must understand how the violent insurrection at the Capitol came together to ensure that the peaceful transfer of power in our country is never threatened again. Our representatives owe this much to the American people."
