Former Secretaries Napolitano, Chertoff and Johnson react to the election as ballots continue to be counted. “There’s not an indication of any kind of widespread fraud,” said former Secretary Chertoff, who served under President George W. Bush. “It turns out that people were not being intimidated as they went to cast ballots...The lesson that the American people ought to take is the system is working. And it’s working in significant part because people went to vote, mailed in their absentee ballots, and did what they’re supposed to do as citizens. And that’s good news.”

As election day nears, former Secretary Johnson notes that more than 90 million Americans have already voted with absentee ballots. He addresses worries about election day unrest and tension by highlighting the work being done by the FBI, which is monitoring activity throughout the country, and the Department of Homeland Security, which has been planning for foreign interference for the last four years. None of these worries should discourage people from voting, said Johnson, adding that “it’s up to voters to be informed and look past disinformation.”
